Fight Night at the Tank plays by the rules and Disqualifies Cortes

(By Boxing’s Finest Staff)

San Jose, Ca -- Miller Lite Fight Night at the Tank played by the rules of the boxing state athletic regulations Thursday night when Ricardo Cortes earned a disqualification to Errol Banner in their super middleweight fight at the HP Pavilion.  The bout began with even trading of power blows and jabs from both fighters, but in the 7th round, Cortes landed an illegal blow to the back of the head of Banner. The injured fighter suffered a severe blow and was no longer able to continue the fight.  Banner was unable to regain wits or stand up properly, and the referee stopped the bout in the 7th round. This action concluded to be a deliberate foul from Cortes and the victory was awarded to Banner.  Cortes suffered his first loss in his career, and his record fell to 10-1-1.
In other bouts of the evening, in the super lightweight division, Anibal Solis earned a split decision victory over Jorge Espinoza.  In the light middleweight division, Walter Diaz earned a majority decision over Israel Sandoval.  In the female bout of the evening at featherweight, Carina Moreno earned a first round TKO victory over Brittney Conan.  moreno.jpg (9245 bytes)
