On
Thursday night, HBO's Boxing Analyst Jim Lampley was
on-hand at HP Pavilion at San Jose to watch the final
Miller Lite Fight Night Event of 2003. The event lived
up to expectations as two of the first three fights
saw first round knockouts. In the Women's bout, the
IFBA World Championship was put on the line and in the
main event, and one of the sport's up and coming
prospects, Librado Andrade proved he is the real deal.
Andrade took charge of the entire bout and dropped his
opponent for the second time in the first round with
under a minute remaining. Townsend was sent much of
the first forty-five seconds running from Anrade. Once
Andrade was able to get inside, he knocked Towensend
to the floor with a hard right hand. Townsend was
knocked down for the fourth time in the fight by a
combination from Andrade. He did return to his feet to
finish the round, but Townsend's trainers stopped the
fight before the third round could start, giving
Andrade the victory by TKO. Andrade raised his career
record to 17-0, while Townsend fell to 37-17-1.
In
a majority decision, James Cook was declared the
winner of the fight. Cook improves to 1-0 in his
career, while Sandoval falls to 1-7. Israel Ornelas
improves to 1-1 lifetime, while Gary Owens record fell
to 1-1. Arturo Quintero's knockout victory improved
his career mark to 8-0 keeping his undefeated streak
while Oscar Villa fell to 3-4. In a unanimous decision, Kelsey Jeffries was declared the
winner as she retained her IFBA World Championship
title and improved to 23-8, while Kelli Cofer's record
fell to 10-1-3.
